In its inaugural year, the New York Television Festival received over 230 groundbreaking pilots produced by independent artists from 24 states and 7 foreign countries. In fall 2005, thousands of television executives, industry figures and television fans attended screenings in custom-designed gallery space located in downtown Manhattan to view this first generation of “independent television.” The 2005 NYTVF was presented in association with TV Guide, worked in partnership with the William Morris Agency, and worked in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of New York City. Official Network Sponsors included NBC Universal, FOX, Comedy Central, VH1, VH1 Classic, Spike TV, A&E Networks, Rainbow Media, TV Land, & Court TV.

Along with the 25 pilots screened as Official Selections at the festival, the 2005 NYTVF featured a number of events celebrating television, including special event screenings, celebrity panel discussions, and parties honoring the industry and its proud heritage in New York. Concluding with the Awards Banquet at Gracie Mansion, the festival established itself as an innovative New York tradition that will help shape the television landscape for years to come.
